Who are The Black Panthers?

The Black Panther Party created free breakfast programs, built over 40+ chapters across the US, and redefined what black power means and looks like. The links below will provide you (some) info on different members apart of this collection and their story, how the organization was founded, free breakfast programs and more! We hope that you do research beyond this point as we are not simply selling clothes, we are here to bring awareness and let you know it is possible to pick up where they left off. We intend to do so and trust you will join in this movement to free our people.

1. Free Breakfast Program:

  • Objective: One of the most impactful community programs initiated by the Black Panther Party, the Free Breakfast Program aimed to address the widespread issue of childhood hunger and malnutrition within African American communities. By providing free and nutritious breakfasts to children before school, the BPP sought to empower young minds and underscore the importance of community-based solutions to systemic problems.

2. Lincoln Hospital Takeover:

  • Event Description: In 1970, members of the Black Panther Party executed the Lincoln Hospital Takeover in the Bronx, New York. Motivated by a commitment to improving healthcare accessibility for underserved communities, the BPP organized the takeover to demand better treatment and services. This event highlighted the party's dedication to addressing systemic issues beyond police brutality, emphasizing the interconnectedness of various forms of injustice.

3. Huey P. Newton:

  • Founder and Leader: Huey P. Newton, along with Bobby Seale, co-founded the Black Panther Party in 1966. Newton, a charismatic and influential figure, played a pivotal role in shaping the party's ideology and strategies. A law student at the time of the BPP's formation, Newton emphasized the importance of self-defense and community empowerment. Despite facing legal challenges, Newton remained a symbol of resistance, contributing significantly to the party's legacy.

4. Bobby Seale:

  • Co-Founder and Activist: Bobby Seale, alongside Huey Newton, co-founded the Black Panther Party. Seale's leadership was instrumental in organizing and advocating for the party's programs and initiatives. His activism extended beyond the BPP's formation, reflecting a commitment to addressing social and economic inequalities. Seale's dedication to the principles of justice and self-defense solidified him as a key figure in the civil rights movement.
